In the past few years, piracy has been a major concern of movie outfits. Earlier, the only ones who were rightfully concerned were drug companies whose best-selling medicines were produced by generic manufacturers and the software companies whose programs were easy to duplicate. But rampant piracy has caused these industries huge losses in revenues. They felt they must act altogether to stop piracy.
Piracy of intellectual property is growing global issue
Intellectual property rights used to belong to authors only but new enabling technologies such as duplicating machines and new software that also duplicates other software has made piracy easy to do. Movie attendance is drastically down due to pirated DVDs that Hollywood producers are now crying foul. All the victims of piracy have appealed to their governments for stricter enforcement of anti-piracy laws and the imposition of tougher criminal sanctions and stiffer financial penalties.
